Story of a mountain climber
The autumn is just coming and your desire to enjoy winter sports is more and more present, but unfortunately snow is definitely absent. So discover the whole story of Cyprien Bichet, photographer and lover of mountains, who shares with you his passion for climbing.
During the autumn, the temperature isn’t enough low to make ice climbing and snow is still to come so climbing is the only way to enjoy the peaks. Today, we are going to Ecrins’s mountains, at the heart of the French Alps, to accompany Cyprien at the ascent of the needle Dibona. With 350m of great granite, this way facing south is a beautiful playground at just a few minutes walk from the refuge Soreiller.
It’s 9 am, the sun has just risen and beginning to bathe the city of Grenoble with its soft warmth when Cyprien began his journey. After 1h30 of ride and a few hundred vertical meters, the valley opens on a magical landscape with at this center the impressive needle Dibona. A mountain as we draw when we are children, vertical and majestic!
After enjoying a day off, Cyprien and his partner, Alexis Gimonet, prepare their equipment and await the arrival of the sun to start the ascent of the peak. Once all conditions are united, they are going to climb Madier’s way, which turns out to be a beautiful vertical wall. The sun which has followed up to the top then gives way to clouds to give them a very airy feeling.
After descending the north face, they are back to the mainland, they have now only to join the refuge before to tumble down the 1200m of vertical drop that separate them from their car. The weekend is over but they return to civilization with wonderful memories thought in mind.
“The climber is a man who drove his body where, one day, his eyes looked…!” – Gaston Rébuffat
