Artist Portrait: Eva Bigeard
The artist’s portrait of the week is feminine and full of spirit thanks to Eva Bigeard. Born in Haute-Savoie, France, she grew up surrounded by mountains. Both fascinated by those summits and curious to see beyond, she’s non-stop travelling with her camera since she has obtained her photography degree. Let’s meet with this young adventurous!
[Hiking on the Moon] Why mountains fascinate you?
Eva Bigeard: The thing is that when you have always lived surrounded by mountains, it’s like if they protect yourself, like a kind of cocoon. Once you get away from them you feel lost and vulnerable. This is quite paradoxical: we feel safe when they surround us, but we want to move up and go see the other side.
[Hiking on the Moon] What do you remember about your trip to Central America, right after school?
It really blows me away! Between colors, biodiversity and people, I wanted to go anywhere and photograph all the things I saw. Since then, adventures led to another: Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Alaska… with always this growing desire to photograph people and their environment.
[Hiking on the Moon] Which was your favorite trip?
I was impressed by the New Zealand. It’s the perfect playground for people like me, who love photos and nature environment. But this feeling mostly comes from the people I met there, they truly touched me. They are so welcoming and they really wanted to show us that their country is the neatest!
[Hiking on the Moon] Do you have a special goal for each trip?
Each travel is prepared differently, between the plane tickets taken on an impulse, the professional ones or the holidays organized beforehand. But generally I have the same idea in mind: meet a lot of people and listen their story and learn a lot about them and their country!
[Hiking on the Moon] Next destination?
I’m interested in all kinds of places, as the crowded cities as the great outdoor. The perfect situation will be to go all around the world! For now, I will visit New York, Burma and I planned a tour of France by moped!
